Nicole Smith, an active company member of Donna Scro/Freespace Dance since 2007 and Pascal Rekoert/Flexicurve since 2008, has also been a scholarship apprentice with Jennifer Muller/The Works (2008-2009), and is currently an apprentice with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. Ms. Smith graduated with a BFA in Dance, summa cum laude, from Montclair State University, where she received several departmental awards for academic excellence and choreography.
Nicole's recent work, project:Smith, an in-depth investigation into her artistic identity as a choreographer, had its performance debut in September 2009. Her choreography prior to project:Smith has been presented at Dance New Amsterdam, Two River Theater, Kasser Theater, and at the American College Dance Festival. In addition to choreographing, Ms. Smith has also served as the rehearsal director for the Montclair State University Repertory Company reconstructions of choreography by Shapiro & Smith and the Susan Marshall & Company.
For the past two years, Ms. Smith has taught ballet and modern dance at Montclair State University. She also served as a teaching artist with Young Audiences of New Jersey for the Dodge Dance Initiative curriculum testing for dance in New Jersey's public schools, as well as a yoga instructor for children of all ages.
